Shia LaBeouf is deepening his knowledge of World War II.
After playing Padre Pio in Abel Ferrara’s biopic about the Italian monk who rose to fame in Catholicism during both world wars, LaBeouf is said to be writing a screenplay set in the Holocaust-hit Auschwitz concentration camp, according to the director.
The director of “Padre Pio”, Ferrara, told it The stage of the cinema who is working on the film with LaBeouf.
“He’s really fine, man. He’s really fine. He went off and made a Coppola movie,” Ferrara said, citing LaBeouf’s role in “Megalopolis.”
He continued, “So, there was one of those movies, right? I mean, ‘Padre Pio’ lasted 15 or 20 days and he was there for four, so he wasn’t there for very long. But still, it was good and it’s working. And we’re working on a film together, he’s writing something about Auschwitz that we’re thinking of doing.”
“Padre Pio” was LaBeouf’s first starring role following the 2020 abuse allegations by ex-girlfriend FKA Twigs, who sued LaBeouf for sexual battery and emotional distress. LaBeouf was attached to “Don’t Worry Darling” before parting ways with the production.
LaBeouf made his screenwriting debut with the autobiographical film “Honey Boy,” directed by Alma Har’el, which chronicled his relationship with an abusive father. The actor later called the script “fucking nonsense” that wasn’t rooted in reality.
“My father has been so loving to me my whole life. Fractured, sure. Wrong, sure. Wobbly, for sure. But he was never loving, he was never there,” LaBeouf said in 2022. “He was always there…and I had done a world press tour about how fucked up he was as a man. Here is a man whom I have caused to vilify on a large scale. I turned the dial on some bullshit that wasn’t real. My father never, ever hit me. He spanked me once, once. And the story that’s painted in “Honey Boy” is this guy is abusing his kid all the time. My father would live with this certain narrative about him on a public scale for a long time, probably for the rest of his life. I have wronged him.
