John Carpenter is back in the director’s chair… or the sofa.

The legendary horror auteur revealed during Texas Frightmare Weekend (via the Prague journalist) who remotely directed the TV series “Suburban Screams”, filmed in Prague. However, Carpenter directed the show from his home in Los Angeles.

“I just finished directing, remotely, a TV series called ‘Suburban Screams’ – ‘John Carpenter’s Suburban Screams,’” Carpenter said. “It was shot in Prague, I sat on the sofa and directed it. It was amazing.”

The upcoming series “Suburban Screams” marks his first directorial effort in over five years. Carpenter’s latest film was 2010’s ‘The Ward’. In 2017, he released a number of remake music videos including ‘Escape from New York’ and ‘Christine’.

During the panel discussion, Carpenter teased a sequel to “The Thing” and announced that he is working on another Lost Themes studio album.

“I’m sworn to secrecy, OK, because there might be, I don’t know if there will be, there might be a ‘Thing 2,'” Carpenter said.

The sci-fi horror film ‘The Thing’ premiered in 1982 and got a remake in 2011.

Last year, Carpenter rated his film remakes overall.

“There are two kinds of remakes for me,” Carpenter said. “One is where I am the creator of the material. I wrote the script. Two: It was a firm assignment. “We want you to do this.” If it’s a studio assignment, they don’t pay me when they do a remake. They own the material. If I generated the script, they have to pay me. This is the kind of sequel I like. My film exists. Create your own. If you want to pay me a bunch of dollars, that’s fine. Have fun.”

Carpenter also spoke about the supposed end of the Jamie Lee Curtis-starring “Halloween” franchise, half a century after the debut of Carpenter’s 1978 film “Halloween.”

“I don’t really care (about the legacy of the franchise),” he said. “The ‘Halloween’ film that I love the most is the one I made in 1978, the one I directed. Others are visions of other people. That’s the way it goes. This is what happens when you give up. I didn’t want to direct sequels. I didn’t think there was a story left. Boy, was I wrong, huh?
