Elizabeth Olsen has learned a new superhero trait: saying no.
The ‘WandaVision’ actress revealed on the ‘Happy Sad Confused’ podcast that her advice to other stars looking to join the MCU would be to sign on just for the start of a movie. Olsen played Marvel’s Wanda Maximoff, aka Scarlet Witch, for eight years and counting.
“Some people have asked me,” Olsen told Josh Horowitz of actors asking for MCU advice, adding, “Give them one.”
Olsen continued, “I think that way you have more control over… If you, we’re like, ‘Oh my God, this is the funniest moment I’ve ever had and I love this character so much, I want to do it again, ‘ now you have more creative control for the next one.”
He joked, “Don’t tell (David) Galluzzi. (He’s) business at Marvel.
Olsen told IndieWire that he was initially reluctant to helm Disney+’s ‘Avengers’ spin-off series ‘WandaVision,’ a tentpole show for the budding streamer.
“It was scary to say yes to doing a TV show with these characters, and then put it on an app that didn’t (yet) exist,” Olsen said. “It didn’t feel like a safe place.”
Olsen reflected, however, “I’m really proud of what we’ve been able to do with the character – and with the characters, like with Vision (Paul Bettany). There has been growth that I could not have predicted.”
The “Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness” actress previously felt “frustrated” with her personal contractual obligations in the MCU when trying to balance blockbusters with independent films.
“I had this security at work but I was losing these pieces that I felt were more of a part of who I am. And the further I got away from that, the less I was considered for it,” Olsen said. “It took away from me the physical ability to do certain jobs that I thought were more in line with the things I enjoyed as an audience member. And this is me being the most honest.
