James Gunn has found his Superman and Lois Lane. David Corenswet will play the lead Clark Kent in Gunn’s “Superman Legacy,” while Rachel Brosnahan will star as Lois Lane, IndieWire has learned.
Corenswet is an actor who broke out in A24’s horror hit ‘Pearl’ and is also known for Netflix’s ‘Look Both Ways’ and the HBO miniseries ‘We Own This City.’ Brosnahan just wrapped up her five-season run on ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.’
“Superman: Legacy” tells the story of Superman’s (Corenswet) journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, driven by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.
Gunn will direct from his own script based on DC characters. Superman was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.
The film is produced by Peter Safran (Aquaman, the upcoming Aquaman 2, The Conjuring franchise), Gunn’s co-president and CEO at DC Studios.
“Superman: Legacy” is the first in Gunn and Safran’s new slate of interconnected films as part of the DCU, and is slated for release on July 11, 2025.
