Anthony Mackie is calling Hollywood conglomerates amid a potential SAG-AFTRA attack in the wake of the WGA itself.
Since early May, the Writers Guild of America has issued a lay-off order for union members due to fair wage negotiations and in response to the threat of AI entering writers’ rooms. The Directors Guild reached an agreement with the AMPTP to avoid a strike; however, SAG contract negotiations in response to AI and streaming residuals are still ongoing.
“It’s a shit show if we go on strike,” Mackie said Reverse, noting that the only way forward is to find an equitable settlement between the studios and the Guild. “They will have to. Unless they find a bunch of fucking YouTubers to make ‘Avengers 5’!”
The MCU actor continued, “Once the studios went public and were bought by big companies, we were screwed. It’s not about art anymore. It is no longer an interesting and fun job. It’s about end-of-quarter profit sharing. These are shareholders. So you are literally just raping and looting the industry. It’s cannibalism.”
Mackie is the protagonist of the next phase of the MCU, ‘Captain America: Brave New World’, previously titled ‘Captain America: New World Order’. Mackie plays Sam Wilson, the new Captain America after proving his heroism as the Falcon.
“There’s a tremendous amount of pressure,” Mackie said of the Marvel film helm. “You throw my stupid ass in the water and say, ‘Swim.’ I’m like, ‘Shit.’ But at the same time, it’s all in the mood. I was given a fantastic cast. I was given a great group of people I’ve worked with before.
Director Julius Onah directs “Brave New World,” which will have “all the flying and CGI and all that shit,” Mackie promised. “It will happen.”
However, the star is still confused about Marvel’s interconnected cinematic universe.
“I’m still trying to figure out the Marvel verse, or whatever,” Mackie said of the MCU multiverse. “I don’t know. I don’t even know what the multiverse is. Man, I have no idea what it is. I’m still trying to figure that shit out.
